Root Canal is a procedure where the infected or inflamed part of the pulp is removed and the root canal is cleaned, disinfected, and sealed. The root canal procedure usually ends by closing the teeth with a cap. Root Canal treatment is usually done when the pulp which sits beneath the central part of the tooth is infected or inflamed. The pulp is the portion of the tooth which houses the nerves, blood vessels and connective tissue of the tooth. Prevention is the way to avoid a Root Canal treatment. Practicing good oral habits like brushing and flossing twice a day, using anti-bacterial mouth wash, visiting a dentist regularly to get your teeth cleaned professionally can prevent tooth decay and its progression. However, once the tooth decay has passed the dentin layer and has started to infect the pulp of the tooth, a Root canal treatment should be performed. At this stage, you cannot avoid getting a root canal treatment.
